CASE STUDIES
By Medical Research Network

This protocol required weekly infusions for a respiratory condition. In this case vials are handled under cold chain conditions but are then compounded by the nurse in the home, immediately prior to infusion.

The study started without home visits but failed as all the seven UK and Eire patients refused to enter the extension study. The site nurses attempted home care but were unable to maintain the workload. The study was therefore closed to recruitment and the MRN initiated emergency home trial support to allow the seven patients to continue. The study reopened recruitment with another four patients pre-screened and a further ten anticipated. This study could not have continued without homecare, and was converted from a potential disaster to a promising success.
