Mantecorp, controlled by Brazil’s Mantegazza family, is based in Rio de Janeiro state.
Mantecorp has a portfolio of prescription and non-prescription drugs, as well as a line of cosmetics, according to Sao Paulo-based Hypermarcas.
The transaction is expected to add OTC medicines such as Polaramine and Coristina-D to Hypermarcas’ existing portfolio of beauty care and personal hygiene products, drugs and processed foods.
Hypermarcas has concluded 28 acquisitions since it was founded in 2001, and in the past one year it has bought almost a dozen pharmaceutical, food, personal hygiene and home care companies, including generic-drug manufacturer Laboratorio Neo Quimica, diaper-maker Sapeka and Colgate-Palmolive’s soap brand.
Bloomberg.com has quoted Hypermarcas CEO Claudio Bergamo as saying that the company will focus on integration and organic growth in 2011, and expects operational savings of more than R$148m after the full integration with Mantecorp.
