Phenotypic Characterisation

Taconic offers a proprietary phenotyping approach, Serial Phenotyping Compression Technology (SPCT™) which combines speed and efficiency with a broad spectrum analysis of the physiological and behavioural effects of the in vivo genetic modifications.

Systematic characterisation of genetically-modified animals with validated bioassays spanning multiple therapeutic areas not only offers an opportunity for early identification of one or more therapeutic indications for genetic targets but also provides a liability assessment of potential on-target side effects. By running the animals sequentially through pre-designed and validated bioassay combinations, SPCT is experimentally proven to maximise the data set per animal without reducing the number of animals challenged in any given assay, and more importantly, the quality of data generated. The SPCT approach achieves significant savings in time and cost for our clients.

Taconic’s multidisciplinary team of physiologists, behavioural scientists, immunologists, pharmacologists, biochemists, and molecular biologists works collaboratively under one roof to assess the effect of a genetic modification in the context of the whole animal.

We understand that the research needs for experimental characterisation of genetically-modified animals vary depending on the stage and specific goals of a drug discovery and development program. Therefore, in addition to the comprehensive cross-therapeutic programmes, Taconic also offers in-depth disease-oriented platforms. Our collective expertise related to multiple therapeutic areas allows us to effectively assess disease manifestations related to various physiological systems. Our scientific experts work with our clients to custom-design each phenotyping program to best meet our clients’ needs and to provide interpretive data analysis at the end of each study.
