Manchester is ranked first in the UK for cancer studies, the pioneering Christie Hospital and the Paterson Institute make up the Manchester Cancer Research Centre, Europe’s largest combined cancer research and treatment centre.
The Christie have been pioneering cancer research breakthroughs for over 100 years and was the global pioneer of many cancer treatments including radiotherapy and the world’s first use of cultured bone marrow for leukaemia treatment.
The Christie is the first UK centre to be officially accredited as a comprehensive cancer centre and is the largest early phase clinical trials unit in the world.
