Gerresheimer AG is part of the United Nations Global Compact

Gerresheimer became a Signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNCG), the world’s largest sustainability initiative. The UNGC is a global network of over 9,500 companies and 3,000 non-business participants who jointly commit to support sustainable business practices along the Ten Principles of the UNGC. Sustainability is one of five strategic goals for Gerresheimer.

is committed to a sustainable future which is reflected in its ambitious corporate goals. The company bases its sustainability strategy on the three pillars GxPure, GxCircular and GxCare, which describe ecological, economic and social targets. These targets include, but are not limited to cutting CO₂ emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by half until 2030 (GxPure), integrating Ecodesign criteria as a fixed component of new product development (GxCircular) and reducing the number of occupational accidents (GxPure). By joining this compact Gerresheimer underlines its commitment to working together with its partners and other stakeholders towards achieving the globally overarching Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UNGC is a voluntary initiative that aims to establish universal principles on human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption as a minimum standard through the active engagement of participating companies, civil society and representatives of organized labour. Taking the company’s corporate strategy into account, Gerresheimer is already on its way to engage and effectuate the targets of the UNGC. Hence, being now officially part of the UNGC means for Gerresheimer no less than embracing their responsibility in all its facets. In addition to the economic principles for Gerresheimer, long-term economic success also consists of creating social and ecological values for society.

Current and future steps

As a key requirement for participation in the UN Global Compact, an annual submission of a Communication on Progress (COP) is set. This COP shall describe how the implementation of the Ten Principles is moving continuously forward. Within the Annual Re-port 2020, Gerresheimer has already integrated a mapping of these Ten Principles to its sustainability targets and actions. Cooperations and partnerships play an important role in Gerresheimer’s sustainability strategy. They underline their strong commitment of being part of the relevant forward-looking discussions and driving sustainability topics forward within acknowledged and shared frameworks.
