J&J acquires ORSL energy drink brand from India’s Jagdale Industries

Johnson & Johnson has acquired ORSL ready-to-drink electrolyte brand from India-based Jagdale Industries, in order to expand its consumer healthcare business in the country.

ORSL is a fruit-based drink useful for electrolytes restoration during mild dehydration and general disability.

It is generally used following cough & cold, pain, fever and other digestive conditions.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but according to industry sources it is estimated that the deal will be around INR7.5bn ($122m).

As part of the deal, Jagdale is expected to offer transition services in the area of manufacturing, detailing and distribution of ORSL.

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Asia Pacific group chairman Thibaut Mongon was quoted by The Hindu as saying that: "’India is a very important market for Johnson & Johnson and we are pleased to add the ORSL brand to our portfolio of consumer health care brands in India.

”This acquisition will allow us to expand our consumer health care offerings in line with our vision of helping consumers lead healthy vibrant lives."
