Contract Packaging Resources recalls Assured brand Naproxen Sodium tablets

US-based drug repackaging firm Contract Packaging Resources has recalled 11,640 boxes of over-the-counter (OTC) pain reliever Assured brand Naproxen Sodium tablets 220mg due to packaging mix-up.

The recall was initiated as some cartons contained bottles of Ibuprofen 200mg soft gels, a different pain reliever.

These recalled drugs were distributed nationwide to Dollar Tree and sold via their retail stores.

According to FDA, if consumers take the pain reliever ‘ibuprofen’ by mistake, they could suffer serious allergic reactions ranging from mild irritation or hives to serious reactions such as anaphylaxes that may be life-threatening.

The company said that it has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.

FDA said that if anyone has consumed ibuprofen tablets, they should immediately consult their healthcare provider and report any problem that may be related to use of this drug.

The company has already notified its distributors and customers directly and arranging for replacement of all recalled products.
