PerkinElmer rolls out gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometer

AxION iQT system provides greater quantitative capabilities compared to a triple quad and can identify 500 compounds per second similar to a quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF).

The device has been designed to carry out both superior quantitation and exact mass identification for complex sample analysis, claims the company.

PerkinElmer environmental health president Dusty Tenney said, "Global regulatory expansion is driving increased adoption of mass spectrometry as the technology provides greater sample insights for many industries."

It can completely characterize and easily quantify compounds for various applications such as analysis of pesticides in food samples to ensure safety and authenticity, quantitation of non-derivatized steroids, cholesterol and therapeutic drug monitoring in research, among others.

For automated sample preparation with accuracy and repeatability, the company is planning to roll out AxION Sample Manager in collaboration with CTC Analytics.

Trading in over 150 nations, PerkinElmer has a workforce of 7,500 employees and reported revenue of nearly $2.1bn in 2012.
