Dow Polyglycols and Surfactants, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company will introduce a new variety of Carbowax Sentry Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) which will be available in flakes.
Reportedly, the availability of the new flaked grades helps Dow better meet demand for solid PEGs. The differences in physical properties between flaked and granular grades are minimal. Carbowax Sentry PEG 3350, 4000, and 8000 flakes are hard, waxy solids.
The company said that the flaked variety of PEG represents a line extension for the customers who may have previously used the traditional granular product. Dow traditionally supplied only granular and powder Carbowax Sentry solid PEG products. The new line of flaked Carbowax Sentry is tied to an expansion of capacity that was announced by Dow in 2007.
Dow has added that the addition of a flaked product line opens up more supply to customers who can use this instead of solid or granular product. This new product offering helps Dow increase and improve the supply in what remains a very tight marketplace.
