Under the terms of the acquisition, MD International’s (MDI’s) 154 employees, its legal entities in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, as well as sales personnel located in Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, and Panama will become part of Welch Allyn. Welch Allyn will continue to utilize MDI’s headquarters located in Miami.
The move is expected to position Welch Allyn for greater opportunities in emerging markets in South and Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, as the company leverages both MDI’s strong brand and market share in the region and its long-standing relationships with large distribution and manufacturer partners.
Julie Shimer, president and CEO of Welch Allyn, said: “This decision, made with the full support of MDI leadership, is consistent with the overall strategic direction of our company, specifically our intention to expand our global reach.
“This acquisition allows our company the opportunity to put Welch Allyn products into the hands of every frontline caregiver and those of our represented manufacturers in this part of the world.”
