ASEBIO - Spanish Bioindustry Association

As the Spanish Bioindustry Association, ASEBIO brings together companies, associations, foundations, universities, technology and research centres that undertake their activities either directly or indirectly related to biotechnology in Spain.

ASEBIO has acted as a meeting and promotion platform for those organisations interested in the development of the national biotechnology scene since 1999. ASEBIO therefore works in close collaboration with regional, national and European governments together with all those social organisations interested in the use of biotechnology for improving the quality of life, the environment and the generation of skilled employment.

Biotechnology

Its broad membership base makes ASEBIO the most appropriate scenario for meeting the challenge of developing the biotechnology sector and taking advantage of the innovation opportunities presented through biotechnology as an economic and social growth vector in Spain.

ASEBIO belongs to and receives support from EUROPABIO, the European Association of Bioindustries and it is a member of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE).

Biotechnological technical research

Asebio specific objectives:

  • Build a constructive working relationship with national and international regulators, authorities, institutions and public centres
  • Promote the ability of all Spanish scientists, academic and industrial, to do research and help to provide these scientits with the tools necessary for reaping the economic benefits of their research
  • Build and maintain strong ties among state academic institutions and businesses, with positive results for the Spanish economy
  • Further the members' concerns regarding fiscal or regulatory policies about the bio- industries
  • Become an information resource for public officials, and enhance public understanding of biotechnology
  • Collaborate with member companies in staff training and in biotechnological technical research
  • Contribute to the establishment of expansion and promotion strategies for the biotechnologies Bio-industries

These are some of the main results ASEBIO has achieved since it started up its activity in 1999.

  • Acknowledgement of the biotech sector as one that is productive, an entity in itself and one that belongs to the CEOE and EUROPABIO business confederations
  • Participation in parliamentary activity and the design of public instruments to support the sector
  • Interlocutor with high ranking members from regional, state and European government bodies and participation on the Science and Technology Advisory Committee, which comes under the Department of the Spanish Prime Minister
  • Contact with embassies and diplomatic representatives from over 30 countries
  • Presence at the most prestigious international trade fairs
  • Participation in numerous studies, reports and doctoral theses on the sector, in collaboration with Universities, CSIC -The Higher Council for Scientific Research and other bodies (ICEX – The Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade, OECD, The European Commission, etc.)

BIOSPAIN 2012 – 6th International Meeting on Biotechnology

BIOSPAIN 2012 will be held in its 6th edition in Bilbao (19th-21st September 2012) featuring a trade exhibition, a partnering event, an investment forum, the BIOTEC 2012 scientific congress, top level seminars & conferences and a career fair with a well balanced mixture of local and international private companies, universities, overseas clusters, research institutes and governmental bodies.

Since its first edition, launched back in the year 2003, it has become one of the leading biotechnology events in Europe. In its 5th edition (2010), held in Pamplona (Navarre, Spain), Biospain attracted over 1.300 delegates, 650 companies from 25 countries, featured 168 exhibitors and over 2.100 one-to-one partnering meetings were held, becoming the 7th largest biotech partnering event organized in 2010.

BIOSPAIN 2012 is part of the official calendar of trade exhibitions supported by the Spanish Secretary of State for Trade.
