Merck Mexico widens Sucanon distribution network

PBR Staff Writer Published 14 July 2011

Merck's Mexican subsidiary Merck SA de CV (Merck Mexico) has widened its distributing network for Fero Industries' over the counter (OTC) drug Sucanon by increasing outlets and pharmacy chains from 900 to over 2,500 in Mexico.

Sucanon, an oral medication for type-2 diabetes, is a member of a class of diabetic medications called insulin sensitizers which help the body to make better usage of its own insulin to control blood sugar levels.

According to pre-clinical and clinical studies, Sucanon lowers blood sugar by increasing the muscle, fat and liver's sensitivity to the body's own naturally produced insulin.

Fero Industries chief operating officer Luis Lopez said the expansion of distribution has placed Sucanon and Sucanon related marketing material in almost three times as many retail stores and should continue to boost market awareness and acceptance of Sucanon as an OTC treatment for type-2 diabetes across Mexico.
